Showplace Market

I obviously did not get to the Style Stitches Month 3 challenge. I was busy getting ready opening my little booth at Showplace Market in Moore. Showplace Market is a great shopping experience. Lots of great vendors featuring a mix of handmade and retail clothing, crafts, decor, food items, art and more. With a recent expansion Showplace now has over 100 vendors. They also have a cafe and a booknook which you can rent out for your meetings, showers and parties. Take your husband with you. There is a man cave with a comfy couch and big screen television to entertain him while you shop.

Showplace is located in Moore, OK off of I35 - 2001 S Broadway.

Style Stitches Challenge - Bag Two

February participants in JemJam's Style Stitches Challenge were asked to create the second bag in the book, called the Everyday Shopper. I used a great brown and white polka dot print and made the pocket out of a embroidered Oklahoma tea towel on it from Cat Studios. I love their products and I am happy with how my bag turned out incorporating the towel as the pocket of the bag.

This bag was quick and simple to put together. Definitely a beginner project. Use this bag to replace your shopping bag at the store or flea market. I always make a new bag to carry my goodies I purchase at Farm Chicks each year and I can't decide whether to use last months Cosmo Bag or this months Everyday Shopper.

When we moved to Oklahoma this past summer, I told my husband on the condition I can go to Spokane each year and go to the Farm Chicks Show. So I was excited when I opened up my new issue of Fleamarket Style yesterday to see a large ad for the show coming up in June. If you have never attended it is a must see show and worth the drive or flight to Washington.

I build up a huge scrap stash of fabric from all of my projects and when I need to clean up, I cut 6" fabric squares and sell them on etsy. They always sell out quick and I love seeing the wonderful things that are made from them.

Cheri created a fun tutorial making bean bags for her kids to play with from the fabric squares I mailed her. Cheri has a new blog LoveAlways,XOX where she features fun projects she has created in order to fulfill her quest to give handmade all year. Today I finally finished my Cosmo Bag for JemJam's Style Stitches Challenge. I love the fabric from Amy Butlers newest Soul Blossom collection. Its bright and cherry and perfect for this Spring. This is a big bag and I plan on using mine for my trip to Philly in March.

This is what is called an "Easy" project. I'm used to making my own patterns and sewing without instruction, so maybe it wasn't as easy for me. I tend to get annoyed when I have to read a pattern to sew, but I did and the instructions were easy enough I think for a "beginner" who has a little sewing experience.

I am looking forward to next months challenge!

Style Stitches Challenge begins...

The first bag for the challenge from Amy Butler Style Stitches book is the Cosmo Bag. Details for participating in this challenge are at JemJam's site. I'm happy we are starting with this bag. Its super cute and I need a larger bag.

We do not have to use Amy Butler fabrics in the challenge, but I was eager for an excuse to purchase some of her new fabric from the Soul Blossom Collection. These are the fabrics I am using for my Cosmo Bag.

My lovely in-laws gave me this book for Christmas and this is the perfect challenge for me. It will make me actually create things from the book rather then just look at it and think someday...

The creative juices are flowing and I am having fun making new bags and accessories for my store. My hubby gave me stack of old cargo shorts he didn't want anymore and I knew I had to repurpose them into shoulder bags. Here is the first one I made and have listed on etsy.

Totally opposite is a sweet little handmade purse made with fabric from French General. The flower pin has a vintage rhinestone cluster that came from an old earring.

Also always working on new keyfobs. These are my best seller and I love them too.

Its been 3 months since the big move from Idaho to Oklahoma. A very hot summer which honestly I did not enjoy at all. I love being able to see my family when I want and Anthony has a chance to spend more time with his grandparents.

Since school started I have been busy making connections with local businesses to sell Designs By Jamie items. I'm happy that my first venture will be selling bags, checkbook covers, reusable snack bags and bridal bags to a great handmade store called Pippin and Pearl on 23rd street near Shartel in OKC. They specialize in handmade and upcycled products from Oklahoma artists.

I will also be having a booth space in Yukon at a vintage furniture store called Big Moon. I am going to focus more on home decor items such as my burlap and linen pillows, table runners, coasters, etc. with a few of my girly accessories thrown in.

Craft show season of course is coming up and Carrie with Glass Wonders was so kind to take some of my items with her to the Pendleton Roundup this week. So I sent her a boxful of cowgirl goodies to sell. So if you are at the roundup this week, stop by and see Carrie. I will also be showing at St. John's Craft fair October 9th and hopefully a big one coming up this December in OKC.

Officially finished...

I finished my last craft fair this past Saturday. Sadly it was so slow, but Ladies Night Out on May 4th was packed full of ladies and I had so much fun visiting all of my friends who came by to say goodbye.

I guess I am ready to tell the state of Idaho that I am officially finished with my business in Idaho and focus on starting over in Oklahoma City. I have found a couple of places to rent booth space and sell my items. I will continue to sell online in my etsy store as well.

We have rented a house and my internet surfing has recently changed from sewing tutorial blogs to decorating blogs and I thought I would share some of my new favorites.

Tatertots and Jello - is one I go to everyday and inspired me to start working with burlap. Love her home decor and fashion projects.

I wanted to post some pics from my booth of a recent craft show that my sorority sponsored to benefit the Lewis-Clark Military Support Group. Many of the items you see in the pictures may still be available in my booth at Morgans Alley Marketplace. I need to get over there and work and add some new items I have made.

I just went over Spring break to Yukon, Oklahoma to see my husband and find a place to live. After 3 days of driving around and dodging Oklahoma's famous potholes, we found a place to rent. We have Anthony enrolled in a his new school as well. He is now an official OKC Thunder fan after going to see them beat the Lakers in Oklahoma City and most of his wardrobe now consists of t shirts with OU on it.

My booth at Morgans Alley will stay open through the end of the month and I understand that the marketplace is hosting a Spring Cleaning Sales at the end of the month. Details on that later. I will have a booth at Ladies Night Out at the Quality Inn on May 4th.

As many of you know I will be moving this Summer from Lewiston and moving to the Oklahoma City area. Designs by Jamie will continue there and I'm excited for some new opportunities for my business there.

I want to thank all the ladies in the Lewiston and Clarkston area that have helped me make my business a success. From my first purse party with Kristi O. to my last with Lucinda. I appreciate each and everyone of my hostesses. Also I appreciate all the girls who continue to be repeat customers and come to me when they need a new bag. Its always flattering to me to hear that someone spotted a "Jamie" bag in town, sometimes even in Spokane. Your support means the world to me. I may continue to have my booth at Morgans Alley after I leave, but I haven't decided for sure. I will continue my online business and I am just an email or call away if you want to place a custom order or just to chat.

I will not be doing anymore purse parties because I am getting my house ready to sell. But I will be involved with a couple of events coming up in the next few months where I will have lots of new items for sell. First our sorority Delta XI is hosting a Ladies Day Out on March 13th from 10-4 at St. Stanislaus Gym. Over 20 vendors and crafters showing off their wares. All proceeds from event will benefit the Lewis-Clark Military Support Group. Then of course is Ladies Night Out in May. The date is not to be determined. Of course for now, I am having fun keeping my booth stocked with new items in Morgans Alley Crafters Marketplace.

New Moon Pendants and lots of new fabrics!

The sewing room is a mess and thread is tracked throughout the house. That means I have been busy sewing and preparing for the holiday shopping season. I am working on making lots of new items to sell at the Marketplace and Etsy.

With the New Moon premier coming up on November 20th, we have been making and selling scrabble tile pendants with a Twilight or New Moon theme. Pictured above are some of my bestsellers, but I have many images to choose from and can custom make a pendant for you. Turnaround time for scrabble tile pendants is 3-5 days. In addition to Twilight there are many other fun images and themes are available to choose from. Peace and 70's theme images are popular, along with inspirational sayings, christmas, fun tween images, etc.

Also pictured some new fabrics I have to choose from. The bottom images are from Amy Butlers new "Love" collection and they are gorgeous. This collection I have features great colors of tangerine and lime. The middle images are called Flourish and Nature-ology. Love the brown with blues. This Sunday is the deadline for custom orders for Christmas.

I have had to cancel two craft shows I was going to participate in - the Armory this weekend and Clarkston High School. I have a great need to relax and just have fun and be creative, not stressed this Christmas. As I said I am still working hard and will be adding lots of new items to my booth at Morgan's Alley Marketplace. There will be an Holiday Open House on Thanksgiving weekend and I will provide the details of this event later. Please stop by and visit.

Morgan's Alley Marketplace at 301 Main Street in Lewiston opened yesterday. I have been working hard to sew new items to fill my little space. I call it my little shop. Not all the vendors are finished setting up their booths, but there will be crafters selling jewelry, paintings, flower arrangements, vintage collectibles, candles, cards and more.

I am still offering purse parties and also hope to work with the tea room downstairs and the wine bar to offer purse parties there as well. If that is something you are interested in let me know. The holiday are coming soon and October is my deadline for custom orders for Christmas. So now is the perfect time to schedule your purse party.

I'm ready for Fall...

The weather gets cooler and my thoughts are on holidays, craft shows and fun. I have been buying lots of new fabric for Fall and having fun creating new purses and accessories from the fabrics. Great colors, blacks, purples, fuschia, yellows and greys. Those seem to be the "in" colors at the moment. My brown and pink and aqua polka dot fabric continues to be a customer favorite.

I'm excited about a new venture and a little bit stressed as well. There is a new crafters marketplace that is opening next Tuesday, September 15th in Morgans Alley on the 2nd floor. They are offering booth space to vendors to sell their vintage collectibles and crafts. I love that building with the large windows and brick walls. So I jumped at the chance to sell my goods there. There is a tea room downstairs as well as a new wine/coffee shop. I'm hoping to work with both of these businesses and offer purse parties in the building. A tea party and purse party combo, a perfect girls day out. So I'm working 24/7 sewing purses for the booth and my custom orders as well. I'll give you more info on the opening later, now I have to sew!

Its summer, what can I say. The kids keep me busy. I have a had a few purse parties this summer and sometimes pop in a Women Who Wine, but its been pretty slow. Needless to say, I am ready to get busy. I having been purchasing some new fabrics and working on some new styles that will be available soon. I also have some new ideas for accessories that you will see very soon.

I also started selling my bags and accessories at a new craft consignment store in Garfield, Washington. Its called Once In A While. The owner Mary has a lots of great craft vendors. Take a day trip up to Garfield and Palouse and check out her store and the other antique stores in the area. I know the shop is only open on Friday and Saturdays.

I can't believe that I am caught up with orders! That is purse party orders. Two custom orders on etsy and 4 local orders, but that is nothing. This is the first time in 3 years that I can say I am caught up. So until I have some more purse party bookings, I am going to focus on building up my store inventory an listing lots on etsy. I also am going to be selling my bags at a new store in Garfield, Washington. Their grand opening is the first weekend of July. I'll fill you in with those details later.

I just listed two fun bags that were made with Martha Stewart tea towels I purchase a couple of years ago, one side is an embroidered drink and the other side is the recipe for the drink. Just put the ingredients in your bag and you are a walking bartender. I also listed two other cute purses, One in a hot pink and orange polka dot print and the other Ginger Blossom fabric with a splash of brown and white zebra. I have these bags pictured above. I also wanted to show off my orders I just completed for a friends purse party. My customers are the best designers.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my booth at Ladies Night Out on May 7th. I really appreciate you and all the kinds comments. I was surprised that night that the big seller that night was not purses, but my new glass tile and scrabble tile necklaces. I think with the economy right now, its nice to be able to pick up a nice item for yourself for little money. I was lucky enough to have my booth next to Becky of JosieGirl Bowtique, Alane with Gold Canyon Candles and Alisha with My Mamma's Rubs was across from me. It was a lot slower this year then previous years, but we all had fun hanging out. Women's Connection did a great job with the new set up this year. If you are a women-owned business, then Women's Connection is a great group to join. Our purpose is to raise money for local women's and childrens charities. I just got back from setting up my booth for Ladies Night Out. I'm exhausted and I have a long evening ahead. I'll catch my breath and will be ready to see you all tonight from 5-8:30 at the Quality Inn in Lewiston. There are 40 vendors tonight and the booths looked great. Have you been to the Farm Chicks? If not, its next month June 6 & 7th. This show features the best vintage antiques and handmade crafts. This is not your ordinary antique or craft show. Each vendor takes a lot of time to get ready for this show. Their items are very best and their booths are like individual little shops. Eye candy overload. This year I am going with some girlfriends to spend the night on Friday evening so we can get in line early the next morning to shop and just have a lot of fun. This is something we have looked forward to since we left the show last year.

This Friday evening is my sororities annual Care To Crop scrapbooking event. This year all proceeds from the event benefit the Cancer Center at St Josephs Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. There is dinner, snacks, door prizes and scrapbooking from 5-11p.m. for only $10.00. There is a silent auction being held at the same time as well and we have lots of great donations. So stop by and bid on items even if you can't attend the crop.

I have been busy making new handbags. I just posted some at my Etsy store yesterday and will be adding some more items throughout the weekend. I am gearing up for Ladies Night Out next month! It will be the first Thursday in May. Plan on attending, I will have more information about this event later. It is a fun girls night out shopping and visiting with other women-owned businesses in the Valley.

Our sorority is sponsoring a scrapbooking event called "Care to Crop" that will benefit SJRMC's Cancer Center. It is this upcoming Friday, April 17th from 5-11 p.m. in conference room C at the hospital. $10 is the registration fee (pre-registration encouraged) and includes dinner, snacks and scrapbooking. There will be door prizes throughout the evening and a silent auction as well. Anyone is welcome to come by to bid on silent auction items. We are currently accepting donations for the silent auction and would greatly appreciate them. A Creative Memories representative will be on hand as well. This is sure to be a fun event that benefits a worthy cause. Contact me if you would like more information. If you are planning on attending, please let me know!

Book Club and New Fabric

I'm glad its Monday morning. I have a lot of work to do and I'm ready to get to it. I have a couple of party orders to finish this week and I'm itching to make some new purses out of some of the new fabrics I just purchased this weekend in Spokane. Pictured are pics of 3 new fabrics. One is a super fun summer print that would be perfect for a beach bag or summer purse. Fun bikinis on black from Alexander Henry Fabrics and two gorgeous new prints called City Blooms in beautiful shades of brown, lilack, blue and sage.

I also need some help. My friends and I started a book club and its my turn to recommend a book. I would love to hear from you. What are you currently reading? Anything, fiction, nonfiction. I need some good books!

After having several weeks off just relaxing and working on small orders, the frenzied pace of my life picks up again. I'm ready, I was getting to lazy and spending too much time in front of the computer. So last Thursday night I had my first party of the year. Thank you Angel! And today another party at a local school. I still need to book more parties for February and March so let me know if you are interested.

This Saturday I am heading north to Moscow to the Winter Market. I just found out about this market last month and went to check it out. It is located at the 1912 Center in the old Moscow High School. There were a lot of vendors and the atmosphere was fun. So I will have a booth there this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market features artisan craft and food vendors and non-profit organizations selling a wide variety of items at each market. These items include, but are not limited to, breads, eggs, spices, soaps, wooden pens, windchimes, used books, yarns, knit items, aprons, blankets, cards, recycled birdfeeders, beautiful photography, Mediterranean food, jewelry, pottery, kalidascopes, arts and crafts for kids and information from various non-profits. Another event I am planning is a Valentines Open House this upcoming Tuesday, February 10th from 5 to 8:30. It is in my home in Lewiston, 804 11th Street, near the Lewiston High School. In addition to Designs By Jamie; Lia Sophia Jewelry, Gold Canyon Candles, Josie-Girl Bowtique and Pampered Chef will be there. We will have lots of yummy valentine goodies and refreshments and door prizes as well. Bring a friend for a little girl time. Great opportunity to find a Valentines gift for yourself or a friend.

The Twilight club that is. Recently a craze has hit 30-40 year old women in Lewiston and they are reading the teen girl book Twilight. I first heard about this when my friends started reading the book and passing it on to their friends, etc. One book is finished and the other must be started immediately or else their is panic. I had one friend call me one day desperate to find book 3 and asked if I knew who had it. The stores are sold out evidently. They are not sleeping and putting off housework and responsibilities to read.

I'm still a bit of an outside to the club. I've only recently read book 1 and haven't started book 2 (which the club members can't believe). I do like the book, but I can't say I've joined the Edward craze yet. I went to the 9:20 showing of the movie last night with members (friends) and really enjoyed the movie. These same friends have seen the movie multiple times, like 7-8 times.

So my plan today is to finish my chores & purses (unlike my friends) and then start book 2. I won't lie, I have been thinking about it often. My eyes go to the book on the counter and wish that I could stop and read it.

The Twilight mania is evident on etsy as well. There are Twilight shirts, jewelry, anything that you can put an Edward on it will be made. I'm going to take advantage of this mania and will soon have something (surprise) with Twilight on it for sale soon. Not purses!

So if you want to join the club. Start reading! I highly recommend the book. If you can't find the book at the bookstore, well I know people.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I have been enjoying a few day off of sewing, but plan on getting back to work tomorrow. A few remaining bags to be "officially" caught up. My day started early, I drove Jim to work in Lapwai because of the weather. We only have one 4x4 and I'm back home to work on the last remaining bags due this weekend for Christmas. A lot of late nights have been spent in my studio and I try to make it comfy by having my favorite diet coke, eating lots of oreo truffles (my waistline is showing it) and watching a lot of tv in front of my sewing machine. I love my customers and love sewing, but I am ready for a 2 week vacation. As I say that I am also ready to book parties for next year. Call me!

The other fabrics are from a new collection from Michael Miller fabrics called Andalucia. I love the bold prints in hot pink, chocolate brown contrasting with the orange and light green. These is are new in the Designs By Jamie shop. They are a heavy duty clear vinyl business card holder. Great for business cards, gift cards, your credit card and ID when you don't want to carry a purse. Two inside pockets. I have inserted either a decorative scrapbook paper or fabric to accent the case and of course they are removable and can be changed if you wish.

They measure 3 7/8" W x 2 3/4"L when closed.

I hope you will be able to come out Saturday and enjoy all the crafters at the LCSC Craft Show in Lewiston. It runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m and is located at the LCSC Activity Center at 500 8th Avenue. My booth will be located in the Auxilary Gym. This is one of the last craft shows of the season before Christmas and an excellent place to find quality handmade items for your Christmas gift giving.

I have new purses made that you can take home with you that day and lots of accessories that are great for gifts for friends and yourself. I also will have gift certificates available. Thank you ladies for stopping by our Holiday Open House last night. We had a lot of fun! I was very excited to see former customers come by to get their 2nd, 3rd and even their 4th bag from Designs By Jamie. Its very flattering and I appreciate you all so much.

I had made several new purses for the night, but everyone wanted to do their own thing and design their own bag. Which means I will be posting some very cute purses I have made to my etsy store. Check them out and see if one calls your name. I also have vinyl checkbook covers and vinyl debit/business card holders that are new. Pictured just a are a couple of the handbags I will be listing. I went to Joanns to buys some interfacing and thread. But I saw this gorgeous new fabric line called Heidi Grace and it called to me. The gorgeous black and red flower prints will look great on my handbags and accessories. I also picked up a couple of fun prints such as the red and black peace fabric (thats going to be a pillow cover for my 9 year old hippy) and the I've been wanting this pink cupcake fabric forever (I'm thinking aprons??).

If this any of these new fabrics are calling your name, just give me a jingle so we can make a new purse for you before this fabric is gone.

Also, last call for purse parties for this year in order to have your items ready in time for Christmas. I'm booking for the first two weeks of November and after that I can't guarantee that orders will be ready in time for the holidays. You don't have to have a party to buy gifts, just give me a call anytime to place an order or to see what I have in stock. I am going to have a booth at the LCSC craft show this year and also an open house on November 7th at my friend Alane's new house.

Also Women's Connection is hosting the 5th Annual Purse Auction that will benefit the YWCA on November 11th. Its starts at 6p.m. Its a fun girls night out and the cost is only $3.00 or 2 for $5.00. That price includes light appetizers and a dessert bar. If you are able to make a donation to this event, please contact me and I will be happy to pick up your purse or other item.

Whistle while I work...

Well, I can't whistle, but now I have a tv in my sewing room so I work and watch. It does make time go by faster and I'm more productive. So tv is a good thing sometimes.

Last night I had a fun party at Tiffanys. She had a 3 in 1 party that featured me - Designs By Jamie, my friend Becky who sells beautiful bows at Josiegirlbowtique and Holli with Uppercase Living. If you were invited and not able to come its not to late to order from anyone of us.

Above are some pics from Beckys table. She has the cutest halloween bows and clips, as well as other beautiful ribbon choices and little girl tutus. I love them, but I don't have girl. Beckys been busy with design-a-bow parties in Lewiston, so contact her if you are interested. She will also be at the Valley Christian Craft Show, Clarkston High School Craft Show and LCSC Craft show.

I have decided to do the LCSC craft show this year. So I have a month to work on custom orders and make enough purses to fill a booth. People do say I'm crazy and I have to agree, but its always worth it in the end. A successful show, having fun and meeting a lot of new people.

October is busy...

I've been busy with St. Stans Action Auction this past week. I was in charge of decorating the fair building. The theme was Treasure Island and I'm very happy with how things looked. In addition to keeping up with my business I've been consumed with decorating this huge building. I was lucky enough to meet Doug who is known in Lewiston for building a pirate ship around his house each Halloween. He lives near the college in Lewiston and I'm sure a lot of you have taken your children there at Halloween. Doug and his buddy Glenn built a pirate ship that he let me display at our school auction and it was a hit! Here are some pics and be sure to take your kids to his house this year to see it in person.

Now that the auction is over I can focus on finishing my orders and getting some more parties booked for the holidays. I just posted some small items and a couple of bags on etsy this morning. The checkbook covers are great gifts for anyone. You can even slip a gift card inside as well. I also listed a lot of keyfob holders in a variety of fabrics. I have 3 more purses and some makeup bags to post as soon as I have time. Another idea for Christmas gifts are my gift certificates. The reciever can purchase anything I have in stock or custom order an item from me.

So back to work for me.... Booking parties for October and November...

Today is my first craft show of the season. St. Stanislaus Catholic Church is hosting its Annual Turkey Feed and Bazaar. I will be in the Parish Center along with other vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by and say hi and enjoy the crafts. Its been nonstop throughout the summer sewing bags, never a lull, for which I'm grateful. I've been booking parties for September (which I still have openings) and starting to accept dates for October. Purse orders after October will not be guaranteed to be finished before Christmas, so I encourage you to think ahead for Christmas gifts and purse parties. I will have a booth at St. Stanislaus Craft Bazaar on October 5th. There will be several vendors there and I will give you an update next week.

A black and cream wedding...

I love the new colors brides are using for their weddings. When I married (the first time) in 1986, it had to be burgandy and rose, the second (and final) wedding, I wasn't so particular so I just said spring color mix. I'm not up to date on current trends for weddings but I love this combination very classy. One bride just had me make up some purses for her bridesmaid attendants for gifts. I hope they love them, I had a hard time giving up these bags.

A new Amy Bag has just been listed in my etsy store. I used fabric from the Ginger Blossom collection. This fabric was designed by Sandy Henderson who lives in Idaho! A great tile fabric in colors of lime, aqua, gold, and brown are on the outside with a brown cord bottom and strap. The inside has a cute flower dot print and has two pockets to hold your smaller items.

I started sewing early this morning. I completed two custom orders for Lindsey, a new purse to add to the etsy site and two gifts for friends.

I just listed this purse that features a pink owl paisley print. The inside is lined with a nice stripe fabric and has two pockets to hold your stuff. This is a great medium size bag measuring 13wx10l.

We took advantage of the beautiful weather this morning and took Anthony and his friend to Castle Park today to play. While they were playing, Jim read the paper and I made these! I've just starting making these recently and I'm trying to get more made to have in stock. They look great on purses, t shirts and jackets. I also finished up a great tote that is also listed in my etsy shop. It has a home decor weight beige and black damask print on the outside with a black corduroy bottom and strap. The inside is a beige and black leopard print.

Our open house last night couldn't have turned out any better. Lots of ladies came through during the evening to shop for handbags, candles and kitchen wares. Many stayed and visited, had snacks and a refreshment. Today I get to call the two lucky ladies who won my drawings. I sold lots of purses and of course took orders for custom ones.
